FACTUAL STORY: Rajani Gopal Krishna is the first visually challenged woman to have qualified as a charted Accountant. Her life demonstrates the fact that with determination and perseverance, no obstacle is surmountable. Rajni was born with normal eye sight and was active as any other child. She was nine years old when one day she returned from school with high temperature. She was admitted to the hospital where her condition was diagnosed as Steven Johnson’s syndrome, a condition that leaves permanent impact on any organ of the body, which would be eyes in Rajni’s case. Having to face great hurdles, she completed her graduation in B.Com. and had to go through bitter experiences of physical and social disadvantages. With strong determination to get a job, she set out for interviews but her lost vision was enough to put an end to opportunities. 

Rajni, found her way to Samarthanam, where she was taught to use screen reading software, JAWS. Although, medical negligence had taken away her eyesight, by way of technological development it gave her a new lease of life. She decided to take up CA exams finally, studying this time with the help of screen reading software- JAWS 

Rajani acknowledges support of Samarthanam as critical in her success. Scribes at Samarthanam, helped her with study materials and converted them to digital formats. Rajni was the first visually impaired person to qualify in CA Exams in 2002. It was a day of triumph for Rajni and Samarthanam. 

Today, Rajani is working with Infosys Technologies as a Chartered Account. She has been presented with several awards for her distinguished achievements.
