Schools and Hostels

The effort to empower physically and economically challenged children and ensure that they are included in the mainstream begins with facilitating access to quality education and livelihood training.

Samarthanam endeavours to support the education of disadvantaged children through its school and hostel programme.

Samarthanam runs two schools in and around Bengaluru city and several hostels across Karnataka, providing free accommodation, nutritious food and quality education. Our schools are recognized by the Government of Karnataka and are currently being supported in part by the government and our corporate partners.

Sri Sharada Integrated Residential Primary School, HSR Layout, Bengaluru

Launched in 2007 to support 50 displaced children, it has now grown into a fully functional Kannada medium school under
the Karnataka State Board curriculum. 200 children from rural North Karnataka and Bengaluru city slums and suburbs including 24 children with disabilities are enrolled in classes I through VII.

Children are provided free hostel facilities, food, books – including Braille books- and medical support. Well equipped science and computer labs, dance and music teachers, experienced yoga and sports faculty and diligent volunteers ensure all round development of the students.

Samarthanam High School, Hulimavu, Bengaluru

130 boys and girls, including 11 physically challenged children study in classes VIII through X at Samarthanam’s high school in Hulimavu.

Started in 2004, this residential Kannada medium school offers boarding facilities for 55 students, while the rest come from local indigent families.

The school supports a computer lab, cultural and sports activities and nutritious mid day meals provided under our Vidyaprasad scheme.

Samarthanam also helps successful students secure admission in pre university courses in Bengaluru city colleges and provides hostel facilities.

Higher Education

Samarthanam supports bright students who are unable to pursue higher education on account of their physical or economic challenges. 

Samarthanam identifies such students and enrols them into colleges in courses of their choice. We provide food and accommodation and take care of all academic costs including books and tuition. Visually impaired students are given digital audio books and scribes are arranged to help them with their learning and examinations.
