Vidyaprasad

Samarthanam launched its nutritious-meal programme in 2002 to take on rampant issues of literacy and malnutrition among economically marginalized children in urban slums and rural centres.

Malnutrition has been known to be a major cause for disability, especially in rural India where the prospect of a hot, healthy meal can encourage children to attend school.

Samarthanam now serves 250000 mid-day meals each month to children in 54 government schools in Karnataka. With a fully equipped, state of the art kitchen and a fleet of vehicles, healthy food is transported 6 days a week to students through our Vidyaprasad project which is subsidised by the Government of Karnataka.

Samarthanam also employs physically challenged persons to run several aspects of this operation.
